Corneal Transplant (PKP)
Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange

This procedure replaces a section of damaged cornea (the clear outer surface of the eye) with a healthy piece of cornea from a donor eye. The surgery, also called a penetrating keratoplasty (PK), takes about an hour to complete and is done on an outpatient basis.

The Procedure

After Care

A shield is placed over the eye to protect the transplant. The patient may leave after spending a short time in a recovery area. Eye drops are needed as the eye heals, and several postoperative visits are usually required. The stitches are usually removed after about a year.
